The Pulses of the Four Seasons

In spring, the liver pulse beats. It is soft, weak, light, vacuous, slippery, straight and long. That is why it is called a string-like pulse. In summer, the heart pulse beats. It becomes exuberantly and goes weakly. Therefore, it is called the hook-shaped pulse (some say it is a surging pulse). In autumn, the lung pulse beats. It is light, vacuous, floating and comes fast and spreads away. This is why it is called a floating pulse (some say it is a rough pulse). In winter, the kidney pulse beats. It is sunken but rises. This is why it is called the nutrient pulse (Some say it is a stony pulse). In all four season, the spleen pulse beats. It is moderate and large.
